Where
Is Procedure Performed
We use
state of the art, fully accredited, out-patient surgical
center. We have Board Certified Anesthesiologists to assist
us.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT
to EXPECT
Bruising and soreness. You might have drains but usually not.
Soreness is usually a 4 on
a 10 scale, and lasts two to five days then decreases.
ANESTHESIA
- Usually general but can be done under local sedation.
DURATION
of OPERATION - Two to three hours.
DAY
of SURGERY - Wear comfortable clothing and leave
your jewelry at home. Following surgery you will stay in the
recovery room one to two hours then to post-op for for two
to three hours. You must have someone drive you to and from
the surgical facility and home. You must have someone stay
with you the first night.
BACK
TO WORK - Seven to ten days. Could be as early as
five days
EXERCISE
- Walk at seven to ten days, full exercise in 3-4 weeks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RISKS
BLEEDING - Bleeding can occur following any
surgery. If bleeding occurs it will usually require going
to operating room to correct.
INFECTION
- Uncommon. We use antibiotics pre- and post- operatively.
SKIN
PROBLEMS - Occur more frequently in smokers. You
can have skin loss or wound separation especially if you smoke.
SCAR
- The scar will be visible. Usually they I will do everything
in my power to minimize the scar, but there will be scars.
Sometimes they are thick, heavy and painful.
CONTOUR
- Initially breasts will be high an flat. This rounds out
over 3-12 weeks. This is the most difficult procedure to predict
the duration. A drop in breast tissue can occur from 6 months
to 6 years. Duration of the operation is 5-6 years.
SYMMETRY
- You are not symmetrical now and will not be perfectly
symmetrical after the surgery. Look very closely in the mirror
prior to surgery to identify asymmetry.
EMOTION
- You may have a period of mild depression after surgery.
This is caused by the stress of the surgery and anesthesia.
It will pass as you recover.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT MASTOPLEXY WILL DO
- Improve
shape or contour.
- Put
nipple areolar a better relationship to
inframammary fold.
- Improve
symmetry if breasts are very asymmetrical.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT MASTOPLEXY WILL NOT DO
- Will
not prevent ptosis of breast from reccuring
at some time.
- Will
not lift without visible scars.
- Will
not give absolute symmetry.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT
IF REVISIONS ARE NEEDED
You are
responsible for anesthesia and facility charges.

HOW LONG WILL RESULTS LAST
Mastoplexy
is the most dificult procedure to predict. It could start
to droop in six months or six years. With attachment to the
chest wall, the duration has improved significantly.
This is
a very difficult question to answer. Longevity of the procedure
depends on your skin elasticity, heredity, previous sun exposure
and post-operatively, stress, smoking and elastic fibers in
your skin. If you are a good candidate with good skin qualities
and don't smoke, you can expect a good appearance for four
to ten years. Remember gravity pulls and aging continues from
the moment I finish your operation. I wish I could guarantee
the duration of the results but it is impossible.
