WHAT
to EXPECT
Bruising and swelling. Moderate pain. Drainage from incision
and drains.
ANESTHESIA
- General - no memory of operation.
Local Mac - no memory of operation.
Local Sedation - will be awake to some extent. You will feel
the injection.
DURATION
of OPERATION - Two and one half to three hours.
DAY
of SURGERY - Wear comfortable clothing and leave
your jewelry at home. Following surgery you will stay in the
recovery room one to two hours. You will have drains. You
must have someone
drive you to and from the surgical facility and home. You
must have someone stay with you the first night.
DAY
TWO - THREE - Expect bruising, swelling and light
to moderate drainage from drains. Pain is usually a 3 on a
10 scale. Your dressing will serve as a bra until you come
back to the office.
BACK
TO WORK - Seven to ten days

RISKS
BLEEDING
- Bleeding can occur following any surgery. If bleeding occurs
it will usually require going to operating room to correct.
INFECTION
- Uncommon. We use antibiotics pre- and post- operatively.
SCARRING
- This is the biggest problem with reduction. I will do everything
in my power to minimize the scar, but there will be scars.
Sometimes they are thick, heavy and painful.
SENSATION
- You will have some numbness but chances of nipple sensation
are approximately 60%.
SYMMETRY
- You are not symmetrical now and will not be perfectly symmetrical
after the surgery. Look very closely in the mirror prior to
surgery to identify asymmetry.
SKIN
LOSS - Smokers are most likely to have skin problems
but can occur in non-smokers.
EMOTION
- You may have a period of mild depression after surgery.
This is caused by the stress of the surgery and anesthesia.
It will pass as you recover.

REDUCTION WILL DO
- Reduce weight and size of breast.
- Relieve back pain.
- Improve posture.

- Will not give
perfect symmetry.
- Will not correct
problem without scars.

IF REVISIONS ARE NEEDED
You are
responsible for anesthesia and facility charges.

HOW LONG WILL RESULTS LAST
This is a very difficult question to answer. Longevity of
the procedure depends on your skin elasticity, heredity, previous
sun exposure and post-operatively, stress, smoking and elastic
fibers in your skin. If you are a good candidate with good
skin qualities and don't smoke, you can expect a good appearance
for four to ten years. Remember gravity pulls and aging continues
from the moment I finish your operation. I wish I could guarantee
the duration of the results but it is impossible.
