Fat Injections
Fat injections give permanent improvement in the facial or body area where irregularities occur. Fat injections may be placed in several areas including the cheeks, nasolabial folds, lips, jawline, temples and various parts of the body.
The procedure is performed by removing fat from the thigh, hip, or other areas where there is an adequate amount of fat. The fat is cleansed and separated from the blood and serum right before injection. The procedure can be performed under a local anesthetic, with sedation, or it can be done under general anesthetic with other procedures. If done under local anesthetic, the injection site is injected with local anesthetic as well as the donor site. The cleansed fat has about 5% stem cells in the fat. The recipient sites whether it be cheek, temple, under the eyes, jaw or circumoral area is injected with a small amount of local anesthetic for a decrease in pain and then small aliquots of fat are injected in linear configurations placed with a very tiny needle opening with very small cannulas to lay in tracts and fill the areas until it gives a normal smooth contour. At this time, the face is the most usual site to inject the fat, but the breasts are quickly gaining popularity with patients who have deformity, asymmetry or just want a small amount or improvement where there is no implant needed.
Dr. Clement believes the fat grafting has and will become the most popular procedure for improving contours in the face and other areas of the body. Fat grafting is one of the best newer procedures we have to give patients a youthful contour to the face and body. Because the fat is made up of 5% stem cells, it has a better chance to grow or "take" wherever it is placed.
